Philosophy of Education:
As said by Thomas Aquainas, "Wonder is the desire of knowledge." It is not only my mission to educate all who enter my classroom in Catholic doctrine as well as accomplishing learning objectives according to each grade level, but to also instill the same wonder which a student inherently craves, particularly to learn about the world around them, because, in doing so, they will approach the innumerable wonders of God’s Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. It is important to also encourage students to set out in learning about the world on their own, driven by this inner wonder. When God gave us the gift of creation, He also gave us the gift of understanding (to some degree) the complexity and perfection in the natural world. With this understanding, we were able to create a way of better describing this beauty to one another through language and literature. Literature is the diary of humanity from age to age, expressing the commonly experienced human condition, and in studying the elements of literature in each new generation, we come to better understand the Lord’s involvement in salvation history. When a student understands the foundations of language, literature, and how to communicate these concepts efficiently and effectively, he or she both learns to appreciate the world God has given us and shares the wonder of the author and the characters in the novel. We grow closer to God with each new concept we learn and I feel deeply honored to help students forge a path toward Him through the desire of knowledge and sharing their appreciation of the gifts given to them.
Message to parents:
I would like to greet all parents at St. Clare's and invite all to become an active part in the development and enrichment of our students. We are here to show students how to love learning, as God intended, and that there is a greater Power Who loves us (Who is indeed Love Itself) and holds us in being, and Who is always willing to guide us in life back to Him. My goal at all times is to guide each student daily to meet their spiritual, academic, and extracurricular potential so that they be grow in excellence and accomplish the vocation that the Lord has in store for them. With all hands on deck, we can forge a community that is full of faith, learning, and fun, as without fun students tend to forget much of what is learned. My door is always open for questions or suggestions, so feel free to reach out and help me continue to build up the St. Clare family.
Extracurricular Activities:
While I am a fan of contemporary fiction as a literary genre, I also love classics and fantasy because they best demonstrate those archetypes upon which current novels and stories are based. By reading these famous and commonly-read works of literature, I am able to engage with these age-old questions and participate in a discussion that is as old as the novel itself. Whenever I’m not reading, I like to spend time exploring the city of Houston by going to museums, restaurants, and events that teach me more about the people we pass everyday. I spend a lot of downtime painting, drawing, and exercising, but my favorite activity is strengthening the bonds I have with my family, friends, and God through prayer and service to others.
