Philosophy of Education:
I have always had a devotion to studying Theology since I could remember. While at Duchesne, my focus was on God, the Eucharist, and how to build my faith in a school that teaches Classical Education. As much as I would like to admit that I love Theology, there is so much more than just reading the Bible. We are faced with trials and tribulations every day, no matter how great the day may be. I want to teach an education that will build students to have a fondness of Our Lord and Our Lady because our faith is very important to our core beliefs and morals in society. Students will be taught the importance of studying Greek Mythology and Scripture to understand why the world is the way that it is. My philosophy of education aligns with St. Thomas Aquinas.
Catholic education is unique from modern education, in that it presupposes a parent-teacher-student relationship in order for the child to receive instruction effectively. The Lord has provided each child with the ability to learn as well as a parent, as their primary educator, according to Church teaching. Gravissimum Educationis, the Second Vatican Council document on Christian Education, clearly states this teaching, stating that “parents are the ones who must create an atmosphere animated by love and respect for God and man...in which the well-rounded personal and social education of children is fostered.” It is the role of the school to support parents in their God-given role as primary educator, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church reiterates in paragraph 2223. In doing so, it is the role of the Catholic school educator to work, both on behalf of the Church and behalf of the student’s parents, to instill within the child, through prayer and example, the agapic Love of God, who is the person of the Holy Spirit, so that he or she may serve as holy temples of Him, as well as evangelical tools of the Love of God in the world, in pursuit of their particular vocation as they learn and develop the virtue of a Christian man or woman. For this and many other reasons, the Catholic educator is one of the very most important missionaries, even though we work just down the road from your home, and I am humbled and privileged, and indeed a bit frightened, to be entrusted with such a momentous obligation to accompany and catechize each of my students with the tenderness and diligence that justice demands of me in such a vocation.
Message to parents:
I welcome parents to participate in the education of their children, in taking note of what is taught during class, and seeking to make connections in their daily life with their child, in praying with him or her as we do at school, and in learning with their child with the curiosity and wonder that children naturally invigorate in their parents, by Design. Please do not hesitate to contact me to find out how you can participate more from home with what we are learning during class, as you are a priceless asset to the education and catechesis of your child, as God has willed to be the case. This academic year, we are in this together! Like you, I have loved your child and have been praying for him or her before I’ve ever known them, and I am excited to serve them, with you, in rearing them into little disciples of Christ.
Extracurricular Activities:
I enjoy sewing, painting, brewing tea, playing with my cat Ross, hiking in the Texas Hill Country with my husband Josh, making rosaries, visiting my family, spending time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament during Adoration.
