Philosophy of Education:
I recognize each student as an individual who brings unique perspectives and experiences to the classroom culture. Through my experience teaching children with disabilities, I differentiate every lesson to reach all students while also helping them reach new heights according to their current potential. I feel it is important to provide a classroom culture that welcomes every child’s strengths and differences in order to create a harmonious family of diverse learners. I hope to foster in each of my students a love for learning and I pray my teaching will help to create lifelong learners.
Ever since receiving my first communion and confirmation in the Catholic Church on Easter Vigil in 2019, I have yearned to combine my passions for education and my Catholic faith. I recall a moment teaching Sunday School at St. Joan of Arc in Boca Raton, Florida where the Lord placed on my heart a desire to teach in a Catholic Education setting. Having the opportunity to invite Christ into the classroom transformed my perspective on teaching and I am excited to begin this new journey teaching in a Christ-centered classroom at St. Clare of Assisi.
Message to Parents:
As a south Florida native with Louisiana roots, I decided to pursue a degree in Education at Louisiana State University. I had always admired my mother, a teacher of children and adults with disabilities, as I watched her change the lives of many individuals throughout her career. She inspired me to touch the lives of children in a similar way.
Although I was baptized Catholic, I did not receive faith formation as a child. It was not until I graduated college when my yearning to understand my faith grew tremendously. In 2019, after 9 months spent in the RCIA program, I received my first communion and confirmation in the Church. Afterwards I continued my faith formation journey in teaching Sunday school at my local parish to a group of 5th graders, as well as facilitating a Women of Grace Foundational Study.
In 2020, I moved to Houston to be closer to some of the friends I made in college and to my parents who had moved back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I would be remiss to leave out that this same best friend was the woman who helped me to discover my faith. When I think of our friendship and how it has led me to my husband, who is her brother, I am in awe of God’s plan.
Extracurricular Activities:
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading books about our Catholic faith, health, and autobiographies. I also love discovering new music, praying the rosary, and cooking delicious meals! I love to spend Saturday afternoon at Barnes and Noble with my husband, Nicky, scouting new cookbooks for my kitchen and children’s literature for my classroom.
