Philosophy of Education:
Authentically Catholic education should seek to shape students into the men and women God wishes them to become. To achieve this end, the education ought to form the student in mind, body, and soul. There are a variety of ways that Catholic teachers provide this formation, from playing sports with the students at recess, to providing an intellectual formation that instills a love of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in the students. Most importantly, the Catholic teacher will help students grow in virtue and love of God through prayer and by setting an example of how one who loves God should live.
In the Math classroom, we will strive to not only learn practical applications of the material, but also to appreciate the order and beauty within the structures of Math, which is evidence of the good, omniscient and rational God, who created and sustains all of His creation.
Message to parents:
Since parents are the primary educators of their children, your participation in your child’s education is not only welcome, but essential. Parents can participate in the education of their children, for example, by praying with and for them and working to instill a sense of wonder in their children by making connections between material learned in school and in their daily life at home and out in town, as well as by learning alongside their children and discussing the concepts while their child learns them to help drive the main points home. If you have any questions or concerns about anything related to class or your child’s formation, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Extracurricular Activities:
I was born and raised in Long Beach, California, and am the oldest of six children. I attended Kolbe Academy for high school, which is when I developed my appreciation for Math and Foreign Languages. During my Middle School and High School years, I was very active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
In my free time, I enjoy reading Scripture in ancient Greek, playing chess, altar-serving, and practicing jiu-jitsu. Having been active in Boy Scouts for several years, I enjoy camping and hiking in the wilderness too. I am a (formerly active, now auxiliary) member of the Legion of Mary. I am always open to discussing Math and the wonders of this language of God’s creation, but I also love learning, reading, and speaking in Latin or Greek with others.
